Work as a Film/TV Extra

I am trying to find work as an extra for the film/t.v.industry.Does anyone have experience with this or know where to find such work.I've seen plenty of agencies advertise but they want money up front to register and advertise and reply to work offers etc.Is this normal practice or is there a way that I can get work of this type without paying up front? Thanks.Neil.
ps.Is there a section on this in the main site.I thought there was but I can't find any relating articles.

Try googling starnow. You have to subscribe monthly at a cost of around £12.
I signed up about 2 years ago. They also have info on gameshows and lots of other info.0 -
Yeah that's normal practice. You pay a fee up front to sign up with them. Then when you do a shift, the agency is paid & they take a fee off it & then pay the rest on to you. If you're flexible, can work at short notice & have your own transport you can get quite a lot of work. Well, depending on the agency - a few of them sign up so many people (to get the sign up fees) and then there isnt enough work to go round. So, if possible, get a recommendation of an agency from someone!0

Try Universal Extras - UK wide
I'm also with Rentacrowd. They're Scotland based though.
Good luck!0 -

Ive been on Starnow too. It was good to get my name out when I started modelling, got a few publications from it in First magazine and Company Magazine, none of them were paid though. Only expenses.

is there a sign up fee with them?
No, usually if a company asks for an upfront fee, that's a telltale sign that the company is a scam. They take out the book fee from your first job, there's a detailed FAQ on their website.2013 Wins :j:
