I did some sums on it once, using data I found on Google. It makes very little difference. I estimated that sitting at lights for 10 minutes a day on my journey would make a 0.1mpg difference.

My car has a trip computer - when the car is stationary with the engine running, it displays fuel consumption in gallons/hr. With the engine fully warmed up and the car stationary it consumes 0.2 gallons/hr.
;discussion/1896051]Knowing how bad the fuel consumption on my Sedona is around town, I
was wondering how being stuck in a traffic jam (at say walking pace) affects mpg. Badly I would have thought. Any ideas? How much fuel does a car use idling and not moving per hour?
When I find myself in a nose-to-tail jam, and edging a couple of feet every few minutes, I turn off, get out, and I manually push the car to save on the juice. Over the year I reckon I've saved over £3 in fuel.

If the Sedona is an automatic then push the gear selector from D to N in traffic to save fuel.
