Free bus travel in Scotland

  • i would just like to say that the vast majority of our elderly have probably worked there whole lives (in rather poor conditions )compared to nowadays and some even in the war. They have also paid their taxes just like the rest of us and i think they deserve this one luxury in their old age. The pensions they get are shocking poor and many resort to wearing 5 layers of clothes in the winter just to keep warm because they cannot afford to keep the heating on. I think this one little benifit of free travel will mean a great deal to these people, many of which do not have many friends or family. Getting out on a bus to the shops may be the highlight of their day. As for disabled people there are a few that are willing to work, as a social care worker myself i know how dificult it is for them to gain employment as they are still very much discrimanated against. Anyways i think the scheme is great.....long may it last:)

Nice to know that folk can travel free.

Pity I have to pay for my travel AND pay taxes to pay for this giveaway.

Don't people get money ( pensions/ benefits ) which is designed to pay for day to day costs including travel ?
Would you prefer I stayed at home, not working?
Having my pass allows me to get to and from work.

    Don't be so judgemental.

Whits: do you have an internet link to / know where I can get further info on this Yorkshire travel scheme, please?
All the info's here, on the menu at the right hand side

If you want to download the application form, it's on most local Council websites (I got mine here, on the Wakefield website)

My pass has been a godsend, I only wish that it applied for travel before 9-30am as well.

(oh, and that I didn't look like a convict in the photo)

I didn't know you actually could apply for travel before 9.30, we simply don't accept passes before this time unless it's south yorkshire.

Must be something to do with pensioners and those with disabilities not having jobs:rolleyes:

I didn't realise those with disabilities were not permitted to be employed.
    Don’t be a can’t, be a can.
