Where can I buy one that doesn't rustle? I had one before as the dog had a few accidents on the bed when she was coming into season but had to remove it eventually as it was like sleeping on crisp bags with all the noise.

Most shops that sell bedding will sell mattress protectors that don't rustle. The best type are the ones that are a terry type material on the top, then a Gortex type breathable rubber backing. I bought mine a few years ago from John Lewis, and it is still going strong. You can buy them cheaper elswhere.

Feliway isn't a cat repellant; I don't think they're trying to get rid of their pets altogether!

It's a spray that mimics cat pheromones so they feel more relaxed in the house. The idea is that whatever is upsetting them (to cause them to toilet in the wrong places) can be offset by this cat 'happy' spray.

It has no smell to humans.

Thanks for explaining that. I just assumed that it was to deter the cats like cat repellants do

There is a product from Pets at home that you spray on the area and it kills the smell for cats and humans. I swear by it, i cant remember the name but think its an american product.

Is it the very aptly named "urine off" (I kid you not), which does work very well! You can get it from ebay too.

With memory foam you may have to soak the affected area and manipulate the foam until it soaks right in. Then you will have to air it for quite a few days to dry it out.

Thanks for the suggestions. The mattress doesn't smell now so going to leave it be! Thankfully we went on holiday so it was able to be properly aired! The cats are supposed to be banned from the bedroom after we caught one of the darlings doing a number two on the duvet (she was only a little kitten at the time but she is now nearly 2!) It was my own fault really. I had not noticed that access to the litter tray was closed off and just thought the cat clamoring for my attention just wanted to play not go toilet! I will investigate the suggestions given above to see if we can be prepared for future accidents.
  • My cat has/had a terrible habit of this since a kitten and I'm at my wits end, just had to throw out two duvets and a mattress because they were so bad! Will remember this thread should she do it in our new place!

Not sure if this would work for memory foam but do you have/ could you borrow a steam cleaner? Every time my mattress recieves unwanted bodily fluids my mum steam cleans it. (My bed has had both dog and child wee on it and my sofabed both child puke and dog afterbirth :o)

Steam cleaning could damage the memory foam.
  • Ahhh steam cleaning could work for a standad mattress though could it?
