Bank charge query

Hi

I was hoping someone could tell me if a bank are allowed to give me charges for being overdrawn when it was a charge from them that made me overdrawn in the first place?

I had no money available in my account with Alliance & Leicester when a charge of £40 was taken out for being overdrawn the previous month. I accept this charge but I didn't have the money to pay it straight away. Now I have had another letter telling me I am being charged £75 for being overdrawn again even though it was the first £40 charge from them that made me overdrawn again!

With my old bank Lloyds TSB they said they were not allowed to charge me for being overdrawn if it was charges from them that made me this way in the first place. Is this the same for all banks because I have only just paid the first £40 charge and now another £75 charge is being put on on the 23rd and I dont have the money to cover it again so this is never going to end

If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated.

I would ring your bank and explain the situation (they may waive the fee as a goodwill gesture), I know HSBC do not make a further charge if it is charges that have caused you to go further overdrawn but do not know what A & L terms are.
