Transfer cd tracks from memory stick to ipod - help please

My netbook laptop (Windows XP) doesn't have a cd drive and a friend transferred some cd tracks onto my memory stick for me to download to ipod. The tracks have shown up in my itunes library but won't download to ipod and when I click on the tracks in the library they won't play and a msg appears saying can't be located.

When I insert memory stick into laptop with itunes library open I can click on a track and it will play. I want to transfer to ipod and I want the tracks to be permanent part of my itunes library - can I do this? I'm very new to all this and I have seen other posts talking about sync v. manual organisation of itunes library but one step at a time I feel.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Try dragging them onto the netbook and then adding them to itunes from the desktop. Then just drag and dropping them to the ipod

The last bit about dragging from library to ipod is clear but the first bit is unclear. Where on netbook do I drop to and from what - library or memory stick.

Well I've sorted part of the problem. I plugged in my memory stick and ipod at the same time, the cd tracks transferred from stick to ipod and they play fine. Now I just need to work out how to have these tracks in my library perhaps delete and start again by downloading from mem. stick - I'll give it a go.

    1) Connect ipod, start itunes and insert memory stick
    2) Open Windows Explorer
    3) Reduce the size of WE (middle button, top right of screen) so that you can see it on top of itunes.
    4) Drag and drop the songs to the ipod.

In iTunes' preferences, you need to go to the advanced tab and select the option to "Copy files to music folder when adding to library", otherwise it will leave them where they are on the memory stick.

After you've done that, remove the tracks from iTunes and add them again.
