Cairo - should I cancel?

With the recent bombs going off in egypt, its made me think twice about going. Im booked on a BA flight - a £300 economy ticket, which when booked stated non refundable. The reservation is with a hotel called Sofitel Maadi towers Im due to fly out in 7 days and concerned.

Does anyone have an opinion on this?
Val :)

  • Hi Val/psykik

If you are staying at the Sofitel on the £6 per night offer, please check your private messages, I have sent you my email address, so that you will know if the reservation will actually be honoured or not.

  • I'd go if I were you, when I went to Cairo there were military/police everywhere lots of security same as in Luxor because they had the bombings there ages ago.

    Dons flame proof jacket.....

I would only go somewhere where I felt relaxed and comfortable, which wouldn't be Egypt - who can forget the cold bloodied murder of over 50 tourists (including many children) 4 or 5 years ago?

    Just my opinion.

I agree with the majority Cairo is miles away from the attacks (the equivalent of not going to Wales because of the troubles in Belfast(10 yrs ago)) I went last year and it seems very safe just be aware of your surroundings and don't do anything you wouldn't do in a big city in the UK.
    Enjoy its a fab place

At the end of the day there are always going to be bombs going off and terrorists etc so I would still go on holiday but just be vigilent, at the end of the day you could get knocked down by a bus but you still carry on with your normal everday duties

I'm going to Cairo in December with 2 children on my own!!! You need to put things in perspective. There are thousands of people on holiday in Egypt at any one time and out of those 13 got killed. More than that got killed in London last year but I bet you wouldnt think twice about getting on a bus there now.
