It might be blocked. Check the filter thing to ensure it hasn't got bunged up with a foreign object, such as a coin or an accumulation of fluff etc (mine blocked last month by an empty crisps packet). That's easy to check & easy to fix ... have some towels ready ...

If it's blocked it should hopefully start spinning again once you've drained the water.

If that fails ... check the paperwork. You might find you're covered by a manufacturers extended guarantee (some offer 3/5 years on parts ... you pay for the labour).

Will they simply replace it ? Doubtful, unless you can prove it's faulty because of a manufacturing defect. But it should last a reasonable period before crapping out, anything up to 6 years, so you might get a free repair out of them or a contribution towards repair costs.

Depends really how far out of guarantee you are and whether your Nan's thrashed the thing.

    Good post.

Our AEG is a great washer but it occasionally stops and it is always the drain thingy.

Not a difficult job but you'll neeed to do it for your Nan as it usually involves getting right down on the floor!

Be prepared for quite a LOT of water coming out if it hasn't ben done in a while - if at all.

I have had so many appliance problems that i now always get extra warranties.

Comet have written off my cooker and washing machine and i would have been screwed when they all blew up had i not taken out the insurance :j

Good luck with your nan and argos :hello:

At best you may get a repair... and that's only if you have a report proving that the fault is a manufacturing defect.
You need to get someone to have a look at the washer and diagnose the problem and how that problem occured. If it is due to a manufaturing defect then I would write (send recorded delivery) to Argos enclosing a copy of the report.
How far out of warranty is the washer?
