I used to use Abel and Cole's national service (delivered by courier). I enjoyed the produce, but I did find it quite pricey. I switched to River Nene as soon as they started delivering to my area, because it's more local to me and it's more affordable and adaptable (for example, I can add extras to my order).
I'd recommend giving them a try, certainly, but I would also suggest looking around for anyone else who delivers to your area, so you can compare prices and quantities. It's quite possible you'll find a better deal.Sealed Pot Challenge 5 - #1742 :j0 -
Tried them a few years ago, but didnt like the quality of the veg. I am sure things will have changed though. Then for some years we were buying from a market (OG straight from the farm - cheap and excellent quality). Then our grower stopped coming so we switched to Riverford. Been using them for about 6 weeks. Quality good, but less flexible than Abel and Cole.0

Had a box from them. Lovely quality but they use an external courier here so changed to riverford last year0

I tried them out.I was more than happy with the quality, but decided it was a bit daft having my veg driven up the M1 when I can buy local stuff 10 mins away.
I've used a variety of organic veg box schemes and if Iwere feeding just me I'd still be using one (local). But my kids will only eat a certain range of veg and I was wasting a lot. Also there was never enough fruit for my lot.0 -
We had a fex boxes with them and weren't impressed. Tiny portions and bruised items. Quite expensive too, although we did have their nationwide courier box.0

We didn't think they were good value for money - the box for 2 definitely couldn't feed us for a week. We now spend £10 a week on fruit and veg from our local farm shop and we get about 4 times more than was in the box!0

I had one delivery to try them out and to be honest was not impressed. quality not good and.. er not the freshest either, imagine mouldy tomatoes. too expensive for what I got. never ordered again0

I also thought you didn't get much for your money. We'd used another box scheme before (can't remember the name I'm afraid) but cancelled when money was short. Tried A&C recently as appeared cheaper - but of the list of items you get in box you often only got 1 or 2 - so once we got 2 small potatoes, which wasn't very useful! Stopped recently as was more ££ than buying from local market.0

Hi all,
I don't usually post on the OS pages but have read quite a lot on here.
I am considering ordering from Abel & Cole (their Small mixed box for £10) as I am finding that I am spending a lot of money needlessly when I pop to the shop for fresh fruit and veg. I don't have a market near me and can never get to the greengrocer as I work long hours.
Has anyone used this service? Is it good value for money? How much would I get in the small mixed box? I can see on the website what is in this week's but it doesn't state quantities.
Thanks for your help!Saving for an early retirement!0 -
Hiya. I've found an older thread on these so I've merged your post with it to keep all the answers together and hopefully answer your question.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0
