BT increased my DD by £20 per month!!!

Got my bill from BT today which informed me that they intended to increase my monthly direct debit from £19.50 to £39.50  , I am slightly in debit on my latest bill, but nothing that would need and extra £140 per year!! Have now phoned them and the very polite gentleman I spoke to agreed that my DD did not have to increase. So why do it in the first place I ask myself???
Anyone else had this from BT. Am seriously thinking of moving to SKY.

What would be the benefit of that?

Think it would work out cheaper - just checking into it. Have SKY and SKY broadband. Also don't really want BT to have my custom if thats the way they treat their customers.

BT will do monthly billing if you ask for it, although they don't publicise it. So that way you would just pay for what you used.

However, as there are other companies around that are cheaper, we are with TalkTalk and love them.

You can switch to BT monthly or quarterly Whole Bill Direct Debit – your bill is then paid in full every monthly/quarter.

Indeed, and however bad BT may appear, they certainly are not as bad as Talk Talk when it comes to service. ( or lack of it in the case of Talk Talk ).

If you ask BT how the Direct Debit is calculated, they will stone wall you and tell you that it is a secret. However, someone told me it goes like this:

Monthly Direct Debit payment is calculated as follows

    P = [ R + C + V ] / 3 + D/6

    Where :-

P = monthly Direct Debit payment

R = Quarterly Line Rental and fixed charges on last bill, charged in advance

C = Quarterly Call charges and variable charges on last bill, charged in arrears

V = VAT on last bill

D = Customer Debit balance on last bill
The triggers for review and recalculation include:
    • Change of tariff
    • Change of products supplied
    • Debit Balance exceeds 3.5 times monthly Direct Debit payment
    • Customer initiated review [a refund of any credit balance can be requested at any time]
    • 6 months has elapsed since the previous review.
Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam
  • BT are very good at completely ignoring the Direct Debit guarantee which states that you will be informed of any changes to your monthly payment IN ADVANCE.

They increased mine from £14 pm to £16 pm without telling me when I had enough credit to have a 3 month payment holiday and then some. I called and did get it reduced but they shouldn't have done it in the first place.

Yep, they did this with me too recently - from £14.95 to £30 pm!

I called to get it reduced, but it's still going to be £14.95 so as I have Sky/Sky Broadband and their line rental is cheaper I'm going to call them now.
