Hi there,
I just bought from a website some music software on dvd from Canada total value including shipping $109 us dollar.
Does anyone have an idea what customs might charge me (if they stop it during mail delivery to me)
I was thinking maybe vat but dont know if there is any other charge.
Many thanks

VAT plus Royal Mail will charge a handling fee I think0

Hi,
My guess is that you will have to pay around £16.00, you may be lucky and get away with it. It depends on whom you bought it from, private or business.
If it's private you may just get away with it, business unlikely.

You are assuming it will come by Royal Mail when it gets to the UK.
That will only be the case if it was sent by Canada Post.
If it's on a global carrier (eg UPS etc), it will come by their partner carrier in the UK (or themselves if they operate here).
Carrier-delivered parcels usually DO get intercepted by Customs.
Typical cost will be VAT (Just under £10) plus handling charge, which will be between £13 (Royal Mail) and £20 (typical carrier).
If music software carries an import tarrif (probably doesn't) there may be a further % fee on top of the VAT.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0
