Latest Windows Update Warning

I have a thread further down the page (System 32/Drivers Help needed etc) about a very serious possibly terminal problem my computer now has following automatic update downloading the latest Windows Update.
I have just spoken to a friend who works for a computer company and apparently I am not the only one who has problems following this update although I am the one with the most serious problem
Many of the computers in their office had problems following download which needed remedial action although only one is still causing problems.
Thought it may be worth posting a warning for all who haven't already downloaded the update. Looks like this will cost me a fair bit if I can find someone able to rescue my computer (preferable outcome) or my files.
edited to add in case its not obvious - no I'm not on my computer now I'm on someone else's.

Your files are probably easily recoverable.
Its a simple case of removing your HD, sticking it in a removable disk drive, USB pen or direction into another PC and accessing it.

Thanks for that reassurance Skyhigh
That's some consolation if it comes to worst case scenario. I've been searching online for info and in some cases people had lost all although I think they messed around more than I have. I couldn't see why they wouldn't be retrievable even if the driver is corrupt as surely it would still be a storage device! I live in my own little world. But it's okay. They know me here.0 -

I don't know spankymonkey. Mine was downloaded automatically without giving me any info. But it was yesterday so it is the latest update.
Sorry not to be of more help.
