Fed up with all this
I am on the Fixed Online tariff with Scottish Power which ends on August 31st 2009.
After being alerted that if I did nothing I would be automatically transferred to a more expensive option by Scottish Power I phoned Energyhelpline and was advised that British Gas had a better deal. After being assured that I would end up paying less per month I agreed to switch. However, after looking at the khw unit rates, I found that this new deal would cost me a lot more than my existing deal with Scottish Power. I then called Scottish power who gave me some figures for their Online discounted energy deal which were better than the British Gas deal. I tried to contact Energyhelpline to cancel the deal I had just signed upto and cannot get through. Meanwhile, although the new Scottish Power deal is cheaper than British Gas, it is still dearer than my existing deal with Scottish Power.
Also, I have not received anything from Scottish Power which will allow me to state I don't want to me be automatically switched to their more expensive product when my existing deal ends, so I have had to phone them again to find out how I do this.
I have been at this since 10am this morning, and it is now 2.30 in the afternoon and am still no further forward.
I just wanted to say that I am fed up with all this - the market is so confusing and when you phone these switching sites, they give you so much information it is hard to make a decision, and yet you are expected to do so on the spot. Add to this the confusion in the market itself - different tariffs, standing charges, specific area prices - it is just a nightmare.
I have a headache.

Hi Matari - If you were on a fix price deal with Scot Power from Aug 08 till Aug 09 it's unlikely that you will match it's prices today from any supplier, because there was a big hike in prices in the Autumn that you managed to miss, and even with the small reductions in April, todays prices are still dearer then those last summer. The key to finding the best deal is to know your annual consumption, and use this to get prices from more than one Switch site. A quick way to check you really have got the best deal, is go to yet another Switch site, put in your consumption figures and on the 'Your Present Supplier?" panel, tell them you are with the company and on the tariff that has been recommended by the others - If the new Switch Site can't offer a saving, you have the best deal. You should be getting an 'Are you sure you want to leave' letter from Scot Power - reply to it saying no and let them deal with Energyline and BG
On a personal note I would not touch n'power with a bargepole and have also found that Scot Power have some very questionable accounting procedures.

Hi dogshome
Thank you - I will try this.
Too exhausting all this shopping around - am getting tired of it. Just wish the comparison sites really did do the work for you - I feel that they have their eye on their commission, rather than the best deal for the customer.
