Buy property or save

Girlfriend and I have £1000 monthly to invest for a couple of years; both still living at home. Should we invest the money in a property, perhaps to let, or put money into a savings account or ..... ? Could be purchase of a property that we might decide to live in after a couple of years.

If you have £1k joint a month why don't you just sign up to regular saver accounts?

    Halifax do 7% £250 a month
    Barlclays 10% £250 a month
    HSBC 8% £250 a month
    Portman 8% £250 a month ISA
    A&L 10% £250 a month

And this is for EACH of you. You will probably not find any high yield risk free ventures for a couple of years. BTL isn't really for the short term, and personally I would stay clear IMHO.

That's what I would do, and that's what I am doing... unless you want to talk about commodities and shares - but that's high risk!

I'd save some of it in 5-10% reg savers, 5% ISAs and 5% inst access savings accounts and invest some of it into investment trusts (higher risk but more potential returns).
    Happy chappy

Commodities high risk? Don't you mean double supersized extra large high risk? Isn't it in Schrager(?)'s Market Wizards books that one of his usual interview questions is what's your worst one day loss? The answer is usually in millions.
Now where are those Pork Belly prices? :D

You told me again you preferred handsome men but for me you would make an exception.

the problem with these bank deals (certainly HSBC and barclays) is that you need to have your SALARy paid into their current account also.....

    so not really viable.
