Hey guys!
I'm really irritated after just having spoken to Talk Talk about my moving house this week. I expected a cancellation charge in the region of £20 - £30 but instead I've been told it will cost me £70!!! I explained to them that I had just come out of hospital and have had to leave my work earlier than planned due to my recovery but they told me that unless I can get the new tenants to take on the account, then the charge still stands. Is there any way around this? I mean, I can't remember past cancellation fees but I was sure they didn't amount to this much.

If you are still in contract, the early termination fee is the lower of £70, or the no. of months the contract has to run x the monthly fee. months to run. So you are being charged the £70 minimum.

Why not just move your TT account to the new property which will cost you £29.99?No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thanks Macman. Well I was hoping to avoid transferring the account over because their customer service over the past year has been awful and I've had nothing but problems with them since I signed up.0

If you transfer it, you'll start a new contract (18 months I believe).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Then I would take the opportunity to 'lose' TT. Heinz is correct, if you transfer the account you have to agree a new contract for line rental, so you'll be stuck with them for another 18m. If the service has been that bad then the £40 difference will seem well worth it. There are much better providers out there.
I agree that TT CS is dreadful, but the system generally works OK-I've only ever had to call them when I initially signed up for my phone package. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Hi FunkyDuck84,
As others have stated already the cessation charges with TalkTalk are £70 or the remainder of your contract - whichever is the lesser amount.
There is a home mover service available for £29.99 but it does involve an new contract period at your new property. If you know the post code etc you can check available services for your new property at https://www.samknows.com using the availability checker. If you want any more information on the TalkTalk home mover process please let me know.
Cheers
