Anyhow, one of the problems I am having that could really do with sorting for the timebeing is with adobe reader. there are remants of adobe 6.0 and adobe 9.0 dotted about by computer. I can uninstall them through the add/remove function as they don't show up. I can re-install as when I try to download a new version it just stops after about 50 odd percent.
I am running windows XP and Kaspersky Antivirus/Firewall.

Sounds as if you have some serious infections and bits of Adobe Reader lying around are the least of your worries.
So start by following the advice in the Malware/Spyware Removal Guide0 -

Right, I tried running the scan again and this time it completed without turning itself off and found no malicious items.Twins, twice the laughs, twice the fun, twice the mess!:j:j0 -

I am running Kaspersky Internet security at present. Before that, I was running Avast but kept having problems with it not updating properyTwins, twice the laughs, twice the fun, twice the mess!:j:j0 -
