I keep going over my T-mobile broadband allowance - and don't know why

T-mobile has a fair useage policy so when I do go over the monthly limit I'm not charged, but I get annoying pop-ups from them and can't look at certain things between 9am and 4pm

Anyway, for the last 2 months I have gone over. I got a message from them yesterday saying I am at 80% of my limit this month.

I don't download movies, music, or anything like that. I am wondering if it could be Avast? It does a download every day, sometimes more than once.

Any ideas?

Unlikey, unless the allowance is very very small

Download a measuring tool and you should be able to figure out what activities are using up the most bandwidth.

What GB limit do you have? and what do you normally use you computer for?

If you have a wireless router make sure you have security set up to stop other people connecting and using your internet connection.

Yes, the measuring tool will tell you whats being used from your computer, if that doesn't account for things its worth checking logs on any wireless router you have to look anything connecting to it that might not be kosher....

Again, what are your download limits?

If you have windows automatic update turned on,it will use a lot. Any software updates that run automatically while it is connected to the web will reduce what is left for surfing.

Youtube or other streaming video sites could be the culprits.

    +1 to this.

Also try disabling your automatic updates on your PC.

But make sure you DO get the microsoft updates regularly by some other means or you'll end up leaving a string published security flaws open and unpatched on your machine.

Read: Expect viruses and malware to start creeping on there if you turn it off and forget about it.

(Also by 'regularly' I'd recommend weekly, but monthly at worst.)

Your doing exactly what your provider counts on you doing. This is how they make money.

I've used 4GB download in 5 days, without video streaming.
I've also used 2.2GB upload in those 9 days.

I downloaded 1 movie, a BBC documentary at just short of 900MB.

So on mobile broadband I would have used 6.2GB of my monthly allowance.

    What's your monthly limit?

I have the 2gb monthly one. I was just wondering why it had only happened the last 2 months out of the 12 I have had it? I will try all those suggestions.
