If you are on a budget, either this @ £240 or this @ £245 will do all that require.

There are 'as new' and unmarked with a 12 month warranty.

A Netbook should do everything that an averagely specified laptop can do other than read or burn to CDs/DVDs internally. Avoid any without Windows installed unless you have some knowledge.

    Stick with a laptop.

You don't mention what's wrong and how you know it can't be fixed.

So why not fix it? save money and the environment?

More crucially, it won't be able to read CDs, nor DVDs, internally, either.

Post #2 adjusted to reflect the inability of Netbooks to read or burn to optical media internally.
I was slightly taken aback by the fact that you didn't mention any Apple products within your post. ;)
    Fully recovered now. :)
