Completing A Function On Excel

It used to be possible via I work spreadsheet that was setup that if for example the word green was input to a cell, the cell would suqsequently turn green, however for some unknown reason this feature has been knocked off.

Does anyone know how this can be setup again?

select cell(s), then:
format > conditional formatting
"cell value is", "equal to", "green"
select cell fill colour using the format button on the pop-up menu

The conditional formatting option is frozen, is there anything that can be done to rectify this issue?

Has the spreadsheet been protected?
tools> protection > (un)protect sheet.

Did a little diggin on Google and found this - hope it helps...

Problem: Conditional Formatting is grayed out.

Shared workbook (Highlight changes is automatic shared workbook) will gray out Conditional Formatting menu option. To remove the shared status: Tools, Share Workbook..., remove checkmark from allow multiple users.

Perfect that worked.

I have one final question, regading one of the columns, I want the arrow for the drop down menu to appear, at present I have to select the cell, hit the second mouse button and then select 'Choose from drop down menu', how can this be done?

Highlight your title row then select data from the menu bar, then filter then auto filter
