Hi again, I know very little about benefits of any kind but perhaps you could go to your local Citizen's Advice and talk through all of these problems with them. At least then you will have someone locally fighting your corner with you. I know it will take time out of your already hectic life but they can help you deal with all the issues that you have and perhaps ease some of the stress that you're feeling.
Please let us know how you are today. Lots of hugs to you. xxx

If he's terminal he should be entitled to the higher rate DLA care straight away.

If you're disabled you could try applying for a bus pass, I think social services can give one with medical support if you don't have a blue badge/higher rate DLA care.

Oh and they were wrong, to get carer's allowance the caree only needs middle or higher rate care, and mobility's nothing to do with it.
    Hi
Sorry not been back onto forum until now. Been spending my time completing more forms! Want to be spending time with Dad not cutting through red tape!Discovered he has higher rate mobility and lower rate care component thats why carers allowance for me has been declined. We have applied for Attendance Allowance under Special Rules and I have found out by the nurse who submitted the forms that they did receive them on 17th Aug so hopefully things can move forward. I've appealed the decision on my carers app drawing their attention to the fact of the Attendance Allowance claim so now keeping fingers crossed!

Many thanks for all your help - you've been a star:kisses3: Mx

    Hi
Just did a long post to you and lost it!! Upshot is I've been doing loads of paperwork today and finally feel may be getting somewhere. I've already just done a post to Ames which hasn't got lost! Papers seem to have crossed in post and I've lodged an appeal against the carers decision. As far as Crisis Loan concerned, couldn't get hold of anyone again today so downloaded a form from web and been completing that. Will hand it in first thing on Monday. Haven't been able to see Dad because of this and lack of funds, but ex has seen him for me. He's ok. Ex will pick me up tomorrow so I can spend the day with Dad and get on top of his cleaning etc. Although our relationship is difficult, I want to spend as much time as I can with him and really wish all the red tape stuff hadn't taken so much time this week. As regards my debts etc I'm going to get to grips with that but to my mind, and I'm sure everyone would agree, Dads more important than flipping banks right now! Can't keep doing somersaults for them, keeping them informed of everything only for them to continue slapping yet more charges onto my ever increasing debt with them! The only people who have been absolutely great with me are Standard Life who my mortgage is with - I can't praise them enough. They are sympathetic, courteous and extremely helpful. Only sorry I don't do all my banking with them instead of Barclays!!

Many thanks to you and everyone of the forum for caring, listening and advising. You've all restored my previously rapidly diminishing faith in human nature. I feel ready to start tackling everything else and am determined I am not going to let all the problems get me down too much. I can always pop on here if I start feeling the pressure and feeling sorry for myself and know you'll all keep me on track.:kisses3: Mxxx

Are you singing on for Jobseekers Allowance? Even if you don't get actual cash you'd get your stamp (NI) paid and certain other advantages arising from being on benefits ... for example you might be able to get a half price bus pass from your local bus company so you can get to your dads.

I'm really glad things are starting to look up.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.
  • Hi here is a factsheet all about basic bank accounts, including a list of the ones on the market (pg4). Yes you can still set up DDs (but there is no overdraft on these accounts so you do need to be careful that you don't set up more than you can afford). Having other debts with your current account makes you very vulnerable to offsetting, where they take your benefits and pay them off your CC (or whatever) leaving you with no money to live on, so try to set one of these up as a priority.
Co-op cashminder & nationwide seem to be fairly popular on here but most important is to choose one who isn't linked to anyone you owe money to.

I assume your ex can't afford to buy you out of the house at a fair price? Is it actually on the market at the moment? I know its not your number one concern (with your Dad and everything) but better to put it on the market than for it to be repossesed which is stressful as well as financially bad.[/QUOTE]
Thanks Tixy. Just to update you, setup an online account with Halifax. Will take about 7 days but will be able to move my DD's and receive money into that so Barclays can't swallow it up. Sorry I haven't bene around - been busy doing more paperwork. I've posted to two of the others who helped yesterday with current info etc. Thank you for your help. Mx
  • Hope so Ames. Thank you x

  • Sorry Tixy - made a mess of my post to you. Got stopped cos I quoted your message in my reply and it had a link. I'm a newbie so can't have links in posts so tried to delete yours. My bit is right at the bottom. I'll get the hang on this forum soon! Mx

If you can't work for health reasons, you should be entitled to Incapacity Benefit or whatever it's been renamed to - have you claimed this?
