Do you have a jobcentre or council advice centre nearby? You could use the phone there for free.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

Use 0800 buster - allows the 0800 call to be taken from your free minutes allowance. Dial 01228 250800 or 0123490800, it'll ask you to input the 0800 number and connect you.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi MP
Its not working. Thru the first number I get as far as putting my number in and it just says to hold and then starts asking me to input again which I do, then get please hold and continues doing that? The 2nd number isn't available. Am I doing something wrong on the first one do you think?

    Thanks M

Hi there, sorry to hear about your problems - wondered if you could put an ad on local freecycle for a bicycle so that you won't need to rack up bus fares?

Great idea but not one for me I'm afraid. Cannot ride a bike at all as I have a disability myself. Wish I could - need the exercise!! lol

Many thanks for suggestion anyway. M
  • Just to update everyone on here who's been so kind helping me today.

More bad news! Just had letter say claim for carers not successful. Called them and told its on the grounds that the component part of DLA relating to care that he is receiving in the lower level. The Mobility component is at higher level. Both need to be mid to higher levels! Wasn't sure of his levels anyway so the hospital GI Specialist nurse advised claiming Attendance Allowance under Special Rules (ie terminal not expected to live for more than 6 months). This was sent to DWP by her along with relevant doctors report and they're saying they haven't got it.

So Income Support claim held up and now carers refused (for the time being)!

Still trying to get hold of crisis loan peeps but must call it a draw for now - got to get to Dads before my last £10 disappears from pocket. Worry about tomorrow later. Mx

    Many thanks everyone.

If he's terminal he should be entitled to the higher rate DLA care straight away.

If you're disabled you could try applying for a bus pass, I think social services can give one with medical support if you don't have a blue badge/higher rate DLA care.

Oh and they were wrong, to get carer's allowance the caree only needs middle or higher rate care, and mobility's nothing to do with it.
