car insurance help...

Ok here goes dumb woman and numpty hubby, so need so outside advice.

Our Fiat Punto was in an accident last month and was written off, Insurance ended up settling as a 50/50 due to it being a narrow road,
we had shortfall insurance so we have no car debt which is great as the shortfalls paid off the remaining credit.

We have choosen another car and have took out the free 7day offer.
mainly so they can arrange road tax for us.
But a few queries we are hoping someone can help with.

Our insurance policy for the Punto was with AA ( although Allianz dealt with the claim )
Our current insurance with AA for the punto is valid until 10 Nov 09
but we have seen a cheaper quote with another insurance company.
hubby was wanting to just cancel his DD for his AA insurance and set up a whole new policy.
But I would have thought he would need to finish paying off his yearly contract, before changing... but he said the total loss claim should have ended it.
I suggested phoning AA to put the new car on to the AA policy until Nov
but he thinks because he has made a claim they will readjust it majorly high.
HELP
Like I said we have until next Friday to arrange insurance but would much rather it was done before then.

Hope that made sense
any help much appreicated xxx
Life is what you make it;)

As you have had a claim the AA will insist you carry on paying the instalments until the end of the term, if you cancel the direct debit they will pass it to a debt collector.

You can simply change the car over and pay any difference, the Allianz will not apply any load for the accident until the renewal of the policy. So it will be their renewal premium which will show an increase
