Scottish Power and Switching- A few Questions, Please Help!
I've searched through 100's of posts relating to the new tariff being brought out by SP but I can't seem to find the right answers for the questions I have so I am hoping someone can please help
I received an email a few weeks back advising me that we will be put onto the new capped rate with SP after our current capped tariff ends at the end of august. (Unless we decline before 30/09)
I'm trying to do some price comparisons online with various comparison websites and have double checked my online account with SP which says I am on "Online Energy - Standard (No Standing Charge)" Shouldn't it say capped like it does on the comparison websites
We definitely capped till 31/08 but I can't seem to find the above tariff which we're on, only what what we were told we were on!
Also I am trying to work out my kWh per year- Is it accurate enough if I take a daily average and times it by 356 days?
Judging by what I have put into energyhelpline.com, EDF online 5 has come out on top and can save me £154 a year- Is this the same a EDF Version 5 ? Both seem to be getting mixed reviews
Would this text- "EdF Energy's Online 5 tariff guarantees a discount of 2% on their standard prices until at least 31st July 2010, whether their standard prices go up or down" mean that I am trapped until July 2010 as some people are saying that you aren't trapped and that is just the date that EDF will only guarantee to and you can change suppliers at any time without penalties
Does anyone know what I'm on about cos I don't
:rotfl:
If the figures that I've used above (a daily average of kwhx365 days) are right then the new 2010 price cap from SP will make me worse off by about £24 so is it really worth the hassle of switching to EDF? Will I actually see £154's difference?
I had more questions but I can't think of them now typically
Any help with the above will be greatly appreciated... Thank you

Is that just what it says on the summary page when you log in? Try seeing if it says anything different on one of your actual bills. To see a bill go to Bill and Consumption History and click on one of the bill amounts to bring up the file. The bill will have the name of the tariff in the top right corner. Also I am trying to work out my kWh per year- Is it accurate enough if I take a daily average and times it by 356 days?
I'd say that isn't an accurate way of doing it. You've given over 12 months history in that photo. Just add up all of the totals except the top and bottom amounts to get exactly 12 months usage. That will be better.Would this text- "EdF Energy's Online 5 tariff guarantees a discount of 2% on their standard prices until at least 31st July 2010, whether their standard prices go up or down" mean that I am trapped until July 2010 as some people are saying that you aren't trapped and that is just the date that EDF will only guarantee to and you can change suppliers at any time without penalties
Yeah I don't think you are trapped into it. It's just a normal online tariff. Usually only fixed and capped ones tie you in. It looks like a pretty good tariff. I'm considering moving to it myself. If energy helpline says it will save you £150 then it will definitely save you something even if it's not quite that much. Just FYI, Topcashback are doing £60 cashback for EDF if you sign up on the EDF website after going via them.0 -
Thanks for your help jd
I have clicked onto one of my actual bills and its says that we are on the Discounted energy onlineI didn't realise you could actually click on one of the bills like that for it to bring up a paper equivalent
:rotfl:
I've just gone through energyhelpline again and picked the online discounted energy for my current tariff with SP- Or should I have picked discounted energy? is there much difference in the backwards wording?(why do they make it so confusing!)
I've also added up the totals for gas and elec minus the top and bottom totals- Now why didn't that make sense at the time :rotfl:
And my new savings table with energyhelpline still brings EDF and version 5 out on top with a saving of £137 :j
I might just go for it- Suppose I don't have anything to loose if I can switch at any time...... Do I?! :rotfl:
And thank you for the tip about topcashback- Unfortunately I am already a member there otherwise I would of asked for you to refer me as a Thank YouWill this cyber pint be ok instead
