If you know the names of the people who are living there and you then get a copy of the Land Registry entries (from the gov.uk site, not one of the others that charge more!) you can compare the names.
If you don't know the names of those living there I am not sure how you can tell. Anyone else got any ideas?RICHARD WEBSTER
As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.0 -
Knock on the door and ask.0

Get the Land Registry title details, for £4.
If the address of the owner matches the address of the property, that should be a good clue. Equally, if not.0 -
Ask the postie, the neighbours, local shops, Police...
- it all sounds very mysterious "family matter".... someone saying they own a place & you suspect they rent maybe??
Re. Scotland Landlord Registration will help (see..

..)
but only if
a) LL has bothered to register &
b) If so the Local authority has processed the application: They were taking more than a year & then..
c) Just because it is registered for rent doesn't preclude the Landlord still living there..
Ho hum, good luck!
