Someone is attempting to bluetooth connect to my sons phone

Hi,

This is an area I am not very familiar with, during the last hour several attempts to connect to my sons mobile have been made, just how close does another object with blue tooth have to be to beep my sons phone? he says it has to be quite close.....

How about turning the bluetooth off, or block the device??
  • 30meters max really, probably somone next door, could be a car outside with one of those bluetooth speakers (they actively try and connect to any phone),
had much fun in town with mine, picking up peoples mobiles willy nilly...

High power bluetooth will have a range of up to 100 metres but if it's another phone it will be around 10 metres max

the one in my works van/minibus automatically pairs with peoples phones as i drive round town, basically you can hear what they are saying with it, its probably illegal but it only does this when my phone is not in the van or its switched off.

it just goes to show how bad the bluetooth encryption is when anyone can connect randomly.

in my opinion, you should turn bluetooth off when you are not using it... it will increase battery life, and also you won't get people trying to connect and asking for a passcode etc.

it takes seconds to turn on, when needed, so that is the most sensible option as someone has already said..

  • I understand about the ear pieces to talk hands free, but what i want to know is how to have fun with it as you call it, do you mean listening into others conversations?

High power transmitters are used to broadcast advertising where crowds gather e.g. concerts, festivals, football matches that sort of thing
