My point was that unless you specifically require something related to Mac software/OS its a big price jump just to compensate for simple preferences (the fact Vista is awful?).

BUT... when spending £1000, compared to £1054, we're looking at hardly any difference, so the BIG price jump is out of the window.

Secondly, the OP could go for the cheaper mac at £767 compared to the £1000 sony, and then the mac is CHEAPER, and there is no price jump, maybe the OP will spend £30 on some ram to match it both at 4GB, but then the Mac is still cheaper.

Your price argument fails to work IMO.

Anyway... this is going the same way as every other thread that someone says the word mac on... round in circles
  • This is getting intense.

Who really uses their pc to its full capacity?

A netbook or anything less than a 13inch screen is useless to me. I will use the computer for one or two games and the rest of the time i will be using it for media, pictures, websites (incl running a website) and music.

I know both Sony and Apple are expensive, however they are more reliable (i've never heard any complaints about apple) and they tend to be a higher end spec. If there is a lower spec Dell than say a Sony, by the time you have customised the Dell to have the same spec as the Sony the Dell is more expensive!

I know Dell are cheap but with the ease that mine broke its put me off buying another one.

Places to buy and compare prices for Macs, including many on-line stores including:

MacWarehouse, Jigsaw24, Cancom (who have many shops around the UK), and many others. Just Google these or buy a copy of MacUser...

All my premium computers (Macs and PCs) have well outlasted anything else, I buy expensive products as often I need the latest technology (at the time), and I need quality and them to last, for my buying cheap stuff and replacing it twice as frequently is a false economy, but everyone is different.

Proof of the pudding is a 10 year old Mac Powerbook (DVD, USB and Firewire, all technologies not available in PC laptops at the time...) still works perfectly, holds a reasonable charge, runs nearly the latest version of OS X, and is used for trips for general office work as a spare machine. It may have cost £2K when new, but it's still working perfectly 10 years later, and looking at eBay they can fetch a decent amount still... So I'd say it was well worth the money.

My high spec end P4 Dell Latitude isn't fairing so well, it can't run Vista (even maxing out the RAM) and is probably worth a tenna, cost about £1800 new...

I've owned numerous Macs and PCs for 20ish years, I've never had any failure in an Apple product (as yet), had one HD fail in a Dell and a screen in a Dell laptop fail. Pretty good going for both brands really.

As mentioned earlier, decide what software you need, then have a look around and see what you prefer.

Sony vs Apple is a good comparison, similar quality. Always try to compare like with like if you are looking at quality. A Vauxhall isn't a BMW, but a BMW is similar to a Merc.
