It is advisable to get wedding insurance - you are covered if the venue cancels etc although you are not covered if you change your mind.

Lots of places do wedding insurance: e&l, m&s, greenbee (john lewis).

  • I have heard horror stories about E&L, I considered it but decided to go with Debenhams at x4 the price :o (including marquee)

It's ironic as I go with the cheapest possible car insurance (although logically my car is the cheapest possible!) but I couldn't bear to risk it with the wedding!

Good luck with whatever you decide to do :D

I have gone with e and l and haven't heard any bad things myself. However, I think it depends on the cost of your wedding. Ours is less than £4k (now excluding honeymoon - those costs keep rising lol!), so E and L works out the best.

I would advise checking the T & C's carefully though. For example, E & L do offer to pay for replacement catering if your original caterers don't turn up, but if you look closely they will only pay a max. of 50% of the cost of the original catering. This means that should this happen, assuming you can't find something cheaper than the original, you will be paying for a good chunk of the costs yourself.

I looked at some of the others and I think M&S may cover 75% of the costs but we decided not to pay the extra for the 25% as we would still be forking out extra anyway!

So really read the T & Cs and think through if you would be covered in each scenario and what you would be covered for!

Also make sure that you get all arrangements in writing or you aren't covered!

haven't heard any horror stories about E&L insurance, they're usually an animal insurer and i know a few people who use them and say they're brill. We've gone with E&L too.

This pretty much sums up everything that is wrong with the world.
  • If you're having a marquee wedding and take out wedding insurance make sure it covers the replacement value of the marquee - this is normally around ten times the cost of hiring and most wedding insurance policies don't allow enough (you end up paying a small premium).
Not saying this to scare anyone, just bear it in mind when shopping round :)
