Just got a new job....

... but i'll have to leave after 2 weeks.
Basically, I have got into my first university course ( shockingly), which requires me to move away from home. I honestly believed I was going to fall into my insurance option, which was just 10 minutes down the road.

Now, I move the first week of September, so I was just seeking some advice as to when I should go to my employer, and notify them I'll have to , unfortunately, leave?

  • You'll probably need to give a month's notice...to be honest, I don't think you should take the job. It's not fair on the company...offer to temp for 2 weeks. It would be a lot of hassle to train you, teach you policies and put you on the payroll for less then a month.

  • Just be honest and tell them what has happened - they will understand, and at the end of the day there's not much you can do about it. Perhapse they have a branch/office in your new location and they could get you transfered to there.

  • I am guessing the job is not worth staying for though? Or is it?

    - You have to put your future over the job, they will get someone else.

But, if you want/need the job - let them know asap as they may be able to get you a job somewhere closer to where you will be studying. Student friendly jobs (ones that you can fit around your studies and are near by Uni's) tend to go quickly the closer you get to term begining, so it might be a good opportunity fot you.

I am sure they will be understanding once you explain your predicament.

It's a local fast food restuarant, and all I can say is, "I'm not really lovin' it "
if that gives you a clue, ha.

    I hope they'll understand, as you've said :)

if it's a national chain then they may well be able to offer to transfer you to a branch nearer your uni.
