    Hi Gally,

Have a drink on me when you're away! It'll be celebrations - virtual and otherwise - all round!

    Cheers,

    Hi Taxi,

Been reading your new diary and you're a real inspiration. We both wish you all the best with your treatment and hope for a fast and full recovery. I look forward to tracking your mortgage down to £0 on your diary.

    Cheers,

    Billy

Thankyou Billy...life has to go on no matter what curve balls we get thrown...I will probably have to go back to work to fulfill my challenge ...DHdoesn't want me to work again but it will be worth it I guess just to get rid of the mortgage so that I don't need to work...lol
  • Hey Billy
dont think I ever replied to your question on the Jigsaw- not sure what kind Ill get , maybe some kind of nice landscape or some kind of luxury-looking beach holiday destination..that way it will keep me motivated to keep plugging away at the mortgage so I can afford to go on holiday somewhere like that! :)
I think you should have a celebration on the 29th- even if its "just" some drinks and a nice dinner, it really is a fantastic achievement to have done what you have- I would love to pay mine off by the time Im 30, but unless anyone does have a spare 127K lying around earmarked for me for xmas, I think ILl be plugging along till much older! ;) seems like M and mrtyo are similar in aspirations for a castle-like home... I could imagine that being nice in scotland...where we live a castle would look pretty out of place :rotfl:

taxi- should probably write on your thread but thought Id join in here! you do seem very positive and are certainly tackling the curve ball life has thrown with an amazing attitude ... work situation sounds a tough one and I can understand both sides- is there anything you could do to earn money that is less taxing and would fit around recovery time etc?... I guess the long term gain in having the mortgage paid off would be great, but also need balancing with the health stuff, I know from friends who have been through chemo it can really wipe you out for a while (that said, 2 are now back working and enjoying working !) of course only you can know your limits and what is manageable - good luck and shall be reading your progress too!

    Hi Folks,

Just came out of the annual appraisal. Happily, my performance at work merits an extra £4,000 per year (which is also backdated to June) so that will mean an even bigger and better celebration on the 29th! At this rate, I might even let M have a drink (other than water) with her dinner!!

    Cheers,

    Billy

    Hi Taxi,

I hope you have the flexibility to do what is best for you both and certainly not to do anything that will run you down any. I'll be cheering you on to the end of your challenge and beyond!

    Hi TYO,

http://www.alljigsawpuzzles.co.uk/shopping/shopexd.asp?id=3630 - might tick the box! I fancy Tahiti now...

I've booked Channings for the 29th. It's a flashy (for us, anyway) place in Edinburgh and (shame on me) also does buy 1 get 1 free on the recently arrived Tastecard. No, I don't have any MSE shame in me and, despite being mortgage free, wasting money will never be on the menu (no pun intended). I've never actually minded spending money - it's the waste that grinds me!

I think Tuesday might be quite a hard day. As I get to thinking about it, I'll be exactly the same age on Tuesday as my dad was when he died and it's a landmark which we've always talked about (as four brothers anyway). Part of my motivation in paying the mortgage off was to make sure M was never left in the lurch financially if the worst happens to me. That said, I'm lucky to be in perfectly good health but you never know what's round the corner and, somewhat morbidly, I can kick off whenever it comes knowing that I've at least provided everything I could for my family. Surely, in part, not having any regrets is something in itself.

    Cheers,

    Billy

Oooh so you are Edinburgh based? Me and OH love the city and luckily his aunt has a flat in Leith we use as regularly as we can.

I cannot believe you are counting down the hours, days and minutes to be MF at such a young age - definitely my inspiration!!
    Mort at highest - June 2008 - £171,000 - Daily Int 5.9% = £27.64:eek:
