What a bunch of TWO-FACED !!!!!! Aviva are

Talk about double standards folks. Did we not have to sit through months of adverts on TV about Norwich Union changing into this fantastic new insurance company, treating the customer as an individual - "I am not a customer reference number" - "I am not a target market" etc, etc, etc?

Did they not use the likes of Ringo Starr and other famous celebrities in their pathetically irritating adverts?

Well, guess what? When you apply for buildings insurance they like you to be NOT of the following criteria:

"Actor/actress on film, stage TV or radio - including presenters, professional sportsman or sportswoman - including trainers, student, childminder, jewller or antique dealer or anyone connected with the entertainment industry"

So if you're any of the above, Aviva don't treat you as an individual, they treat you as a Leper. Of course, until it suits them to make use of such people in their advertising campaigns. Just don't ask for a home insurance quote Ringo....

    um no.

These roles attract a far greater degree of risk and uncertainty for risk and thus need professional and specialist insurance companies. Not a very vague and general product as offered to Joe Bloggs.

    Proof please?

Why are any of those professions of higher risk than say, a roofer, a motorway maintainence worker, a railway maintainence worker, a member of the armed forces etc? The list of blatantly obvious high risk professions could go on, but Aviva choose a handful of the usual suspects that have been historically penalised for years on what proof and grounds?

I've never seen an insurance company raise such an exclusion list for home insurance - EVER. I have for car insurance though and expect this. After all, those sort of people are always driving late at night, drunk, pumped full of narcotics and are therefore a massive risk to have sharing the roads with respectable people. So yes, lets keep this high risk filth off the roads by refusing to insure them full stop. No doubt they'd accept £5000+ to cover the car insurance for an 18 year old boy racer, but old Terry Wogan wouldn't get a look in.

I'm just aghast at the two faced irony of using people to sell a product that wouldn't be offered it on the grounds of their 'high risk' day jobs.

And anyone affected will know fine that specialist companies are the best to approach. Insurance companies like Aviva and their quoting systems are for basic standard insurance. If you dont fall into this category your stupid to even ask when specialists are far better to approach

    Some good points there drumdoctor.

You mean you are surprised that your saw celebrities on television?
Of course, until it suits them to make use of such people in their advertising campaigns.
Next you will be telling us that films use actors and that Indiana Jones is not real.

Just because their mainstream retail product designed for the average consumer (to be bought direct or online) doesnt offer cover, does not mean they don't have a product available to deal with high risk occupations which you can buy via a broker.

If you want to annoy Aviva you could put a complaint into the ASA about your comments, people did the same about the Swiftcover Ads with Iggy Pop http://www.swiftcover.com/about/press/iggy-pop-ads/

In reality a celebrity would use a broker that specilises in Insuring celebrities that their manager would introduce them to. It would be quite amusing if say Bruce Willis was actually insured by Aviva and had to run the gaunlet of their call centre and they sent Aspera round to repair his claim.

Although Aviva were advertising the brand and not car or household policy. So it would be destined to fail.

Back to the thread in general, Aviva have plenty of faults but its probably better to focus on those rather those and not get wound up by an advert.
