Parking Ticket for using Motorway Services Car Park

Ultimately you need to communicate with the garage in writing. Depending upon how the telephone conversation with them proceeds. Ultimately you need to assert your rights. The exact wording of the written agreement with the garage for the loaned vehicle is important.
What does it say ?
The garage, of course, may wish to distance themselves from the "fine". If they do get entangled with the parking company, then this will take up their time and, just as they charge by the hour for servicing/repairing your car, they have a case for charging you for their time in resolving your problems with the parking company.
They might very well even quote Martin's advice about corresponding with the parking company. :money:
At the very least, don't necessarily expect a courtesy car next time !! :rotfl::rotfl:0 -
March 2009
I was travelling to Sheffield and during the night i found my vehiclecausing me trouble, i pulled into Donnington services and had need to leave the vehicle there for a period of 4 hours, between 3am and 7am, (no other traffic there other than 3 cars, i was driving a small white van) i parked in a spot in the corner away from all other traffic that may use the service area, i never had a mobile phone with me to make any telephone call to the parking company who placed no payment machines anywhere in the car park, why should i be compelled to call a number that is premium rate to mobiles?
I AM NOT PAYING THIS FINE NOT TODAY NOT EVER
if i was in need of sleep why should i not take notice of the signs on the motorway that say tiredness kills take a break? if i had broken down why shouldnt i take my vehicle somewhere safe where i wont have it broken into?
these people clearly state they do not accept responsibility for any damage or loss caused to any vehicle parked in their areas so what am i paying for? to put my wheels on a piece of concrete that nobody else required at that time?
i will keep you posted as to how this pans out but i aint paying!0 -

Good for you. I can tell you exactly how it will "pan out" - you will ignore a number of fraudulent letters, then they will give up.:D0 -
Something is really wrong with this country.
I have often driven long distances at night time and became too tired to continue with no car park for miles to come. Only to find that when I finally arrive at a service area there is a 2 hour limit
I have traveled extensively throughout Europe and USA. There have always been plenty of car parks either within or outside of service areas. I have never come across such a parking area outside the UK where there was a time limit or penalties for overstaying.
Also I have never been charged for air outside the UK. I was astonished to be asked as much as £1.50 for air at one service area on the M1
Rest areas and air are two very important needs for road safety and motorists should never be discouraged for making use of them
I found a petition on the number 10 website and so far there are very few signatures
I encourage everyone in agreement to sign it

Unfortunately i feel that this petition doesn't go far enough. Drivers should be allowed to rest for as long as necessary to be able to continue their journey safelyIWasLookingBackToSeeIfSheWasLookinBackToSeeIfIWasLookinBackAtHer.....0 -

In really sleety weather a couple of weeks ago I had to do an unexpected long journey, and needed to top up my scoosh, as well as fuel. I couldn't believe it when, as the two charge machines were either frozen or bust, and I couldn't find a tap and/ot watering can. The lovely SA told me they didn't provide them any more as they kept getting nicked, and offered a coffee cup so I could load up via the bathroom sink.
Luckily (for them, as well as me:cool:) they could sell me a five quid tub of ready prepared screenwash.
Services is a wee bit of an exaggeration sometimesNot just a sucker for sweeties..:o0 -
