It really does depend on all sorts of things.

But a bog standard family earning £22,000 a year, 2 adults, 3 children (between 2+20) and if the parents are not claiming working tax credits for any childcare costs would get about £450 a month tax credits ... if the eldest then stopped college it would drop by about £177 a month and then add on the £80 child benefit, makes it approx £250 a month. £500 seems alot but I don't want to call her Mum a liar lol

Although the tax credits are not going to be there forever, so the parents need to come to some sort of arrangement to cover the difference when the child leaves college anyway.

I totally understand where her Mum is coming from saying GET A JOB, as then your friend can take on some responsibilities herself and ease the burden of the money loss. Although it does seem a bit like emotional blackmail lol

Noooooo! My figures could be way out depending on their personal circumstances :rotfl:

What kind of relationship does she have with her Mother? Tell her to google tax credits calculator and she can work out for herself online how much her Mum will probably lose :D (The results are only from the day it is when using it to the end of April though, so divide by 8 months for this month)

I will be over £800 a month worse off when last child leaves school.
Plus I presume Council Tax will increase because it is classed as a single adult household now !
Please do not underestimate financial impact on PWC  it is already giving me sleepless nights.

The parent in the OP's post is NOT single.

The OP has just posted in here because it's about benefits/child support I think. x
