BA to NY - cheaper to buy premium economy hotel/flight package than just flights

no idea if it'll cause issues, the "hotel" as such has been around for years, but it has always been debatable whether they have the right licences etc etc, from NYC council.
it is a huge IF, that it would get closed, you could easily stay there a week, and nothing happens, but it's just the big IF!

From transatlantic experience with BA if AND ITS A BIG IF, you must travel BA then the upgrade isn't worth paying for - if you want PE go with Virgin0

I just looked for my dates, flying prem economy and staying at Marriott Marquis
17/12 - 20/12
It comes up as just over £1600 for 2 plus 1 infant...
I'm not sure this is that cheap? I can get the hotel for £850 without any deals or price matching....
So £425 a flight? I'vebeen 5 times and never paid that much...

I can't see much below £375 for standard economy seats on those dates though (via Opodo/Expedia etc), and I would certainly be happy to pay £50 extra each for premium economy to get a bit more leg room. That said, we have another booking for BA next year when we are taking the kids and we have already been allocated the seats with a bassinet which get you extra leg room in economy so I wouldn't bother paying to upgrade. The main point of the original post was really just to say that BA seem to have good deals on premium economy at the moment if you buy a package through them. I am sure if you are looking for an economy package it is probably cheaper to price up yourself, although we booked Marriott package with economy flights with BA for £812 and I couldn't get this cheaper by buying packaging up myself at the time (but the same package is now over £1000 with BA). Hope you have a great holiday!0 -

You've never paid more than £425 for BA Premium Economy? I'm not a regular flyer on BA or to NY, but i'm amazed if you have ever paid less for WT+? £600 is normally an excellent fare
Can you confirm you meant Premium Economy, as I might start looking seriously!0 -
Hi Malkie,
Not true with BA, you need to book ground arrangements that equal the duration of the stay, be prebooked and include 1 minimum component of cruise, accommodation or car hire
ah, ok, I've been told bad information then! It's not something I've ever tried or taken advantage of, but been told by others.
I fly frequently(ish) with BA, but only ever use them for flights!Legal team on standby0 -
Why pay £850 for 3 nights at the marriot marquis when you can stay at the fab radio city apartments, just steps away, for probably half the price?! Much better having a small kitchenette etc with the little one (heating up milk etc if you need to, as the kitchens have microwaves).

People get so ripped off in NY for hotels, especially those that are miles away from the main tourist areas.Vanquis- Limit £1250, balance £0
Capital One Classic- Limit £800, balance £0
Natwest Current Account- £800 OD limit, approx £600 OD
Loan- £3300, will be paid off by Dec 09
Student Loan- paid off Dec 09 (That's £150 a month extra! Woohoo)
Empire Catalogue Account- £750 limit, balance £300 -
That place looks great, and I'll remember that for the future. However, you are comparing apples with oranges - one is a reasonable hotel chain, the other is an apartment. Some people appreciate the hotel services that apartments don't have.Legal team on standby0

hayes and Jarvis have some good NY deals as well - including nights at the Ramada New Yorker which I loved on my only visit to NY. In January you can get 4 nights room only for £499 per person, flying with BA!Bern :j0

I stayed in the Marriott Marquis in 2007, and paid a LOT!
I personally wouldn't stay there again, I was just pricing it up for comparison!
Its a LOVELY hotel, but we just didn't spend any time in there, we were up and out by 7am and didn't get back in till 11pm!!
It was a lot to pay for just a nice bed and view!
I am thinking about Radio City Apts, but also somewhere further away from Times Square.... just not decided yet!0
