bank charged me because tax credits not paid!

Hi all,
have done a search but couldnt find specific to me, i was charged bank charges of £60 because the tax credit people did not pay in their error and i went overdrawn as a consequence with no money coming in
immediately, so i got charged £6 pound per day on top of their £25 charge i do not think this is fair! is there anything i can do about it??

thanks

  • It's very frustrating of course but no not really, you need a buffer.

    Hi Tony

If it is the fault of the tax credits people I would get in touch with them and explain what's happened and try to get them to pay the charges - after all it's their fault you got charged in the first place!!

I am assuming you misread the Original Poster since they can claim back the charges under the Law of the land called Unfair Terms in Consumer Contract Regulations 1999. You'll be amazed how scared it makes some bankers ;)

You can reclaim the charges regardless of anything. Can I ask how you went over the overdraft? Was it a Direct Debit?

I would ask why does everyone go straight after the bank? why not the company or organisation that caused it in the first place?

Willo, you suggesting the bank aren't helpful? That is very unlike you ;)
