Hi
My son has left university and hasnt yet got a job. He is still living in leeds and sharing a flat with one other person who is a student. They each have individual contracts with the landlady for the rent.
My son has been trying to get contents insurance - usual channels, Endsleigh etc but they want £250 for it! He only has about 2k worth of stuff including his laptop hard drive headphones etc. This is more than I pay for house and contents insurance on our 4 bed detached house!
Does anyone have any helpful suggestions for where he might try to get insured.
It would be great to hear from you, many thanks
Anne

His premium is going to be expensive as a) He is young b) he does not have no claims bonus c) He is in a high risk post code.
He could try taking out a policy in joint names with the other tenant, this would cover both of their contents so the premium could be split between them. Advise him to speak to a local broker who should be able to help him0 -
That seems steep for Endsleigh!
I got a quote from them a couple of weeks ago for my 18 year old who is just starting Perth college and sharing a flat with another student.
The quote for contents (£3000) and laptop Insurance (£500) was for £57, I assume it is down to the area your son is living?0 -

Yes, I am aware but as I live in a tied house that goes with my job I don't have home insurance and can't even afford home contents insurance at the moment.0
