Gem motoring assist - opinions wanted

I'm considering this for my breakdown cover due to the AA's extortionate price tags.

I have a 1999 (T reg) 1.1 Peugeot 106 with 53000 miles on the clock I've had it for 5 years and done all but 15000 miles of that myself. I've never had to call break down out on it *touches wood* and resent the £loadsamoney I've coughed up to the AA in the last 5 years.

Gem do Recovery Reclaim (where you pay up front yourself and claim back on the receipts). I am seriously considering this. Had anyone anything positve or negative to comment. Gem cost £57.00 for this but to add a family member add £15.00. Much cheaper than my AA renewal at £106.50  includes homestart which I would want to continue.

Auto Aid I've checked out but as I want to add my son, they can't help me. They want member or member plus spouse (being specific, not just a family member) so I've had to dismiss them. It's just to cover me for the time being but as my son's going to be driving soon we intend to share car usage within the next 12 months so I might need to upgrade to add him as family member.

Thoughts anyone?

    If your son had his own Auto Aid! It would be 2 x 32 = £64. Gem is £57 + 15 = £72.

Auto Aid cover the Driver in any car!

Thanks sarahjovi, I did consider having separate ones but auto aid is £45 when home address and within 1 mile is included, so that would be 2 x £45.

Double check that as I paid £32 and understood that it covered you at home for up to £45 (breakdown recovery fees) not the actual fee you pay.

I also paid £32 in March this year and it includes home cover.

I think you've both swayed the balance back to Auto Aid for me!

If and when my son gets his act together, we will do a separate one for him and he'll be paying.
