Either use the memory advisor or the rather neat Crucial System Scanner to determine what you need.
They are a great company to deal with and most times will come out with the best deal.

I totally agree, I've used these plenty of times when buying for others and they have always shipped the right memory or the required PC/motherboard.Regards,
Dave
If only I had a pound for every time I used the thanks button0 -
I just take my Ram down to PC World, and they tell me what type I need.
Whether or not I buy it from there once they have given me the info, is another story (Depends on price!)0 -
You really want to find out what type of RAM your PC uses, this is dependant on your motherboard.
Theres plnty of free tools for finding this out, just Google around.
Remember, when it comes to RAM size does not matter!
Its the latency.
For example, last year I spent £200 on 1GB of 2-2-2-3 low latency OCZ RAM.
But I could have bought 2GB genreic, crucial or corsair RAM for the same amount wihth latency of 7-7-7-11, or something stupid.
Although I would have had alot more RAM, it would have been alot slower, therefore slowing my PC down.
Whereas due to the latency (access speed) of the RAM I bought, it 'acts' in comparison to the 2GB of generic RAM, as if it were 3/4GB.
Its like buying a Ferrari for £40,000 or a Ford Mondeo for £10,000.
They're both cars, they both go from A to B, the Mondeo holds more stuff, but the Ferrari is *alot* faster.
Really, most people go for quantity over quality.
Unless you're a serious PC user or just a gamer
I do NOT recommend PC world for RAM installations or purchasing, their staff do NOT usually know what they are talking about, plus their prices are usually insane!
