We bought our first car in Feb 2007 & took out an insurance policy with Tesco. In 2008 it sent us a renewal quote with NCD as 2years(said it was a bonus). We searched on the comparison websites & took an insurance with Prudential as it was cheaper (with 1 year NCD). Prudential asked us to send them the renewal quote from Tesco. Based on that it changed our NCD to 2 years. This year we just renewed our policy with Prudential (which has now made the NCD to 3 yrs). Our doubt is, when we apply for insurance what is the NCD we need to quote, is it what is on the existing policy or do we have to call Prudential & ask them to change the NCD so that there is no confusion? Can someone kindly advice what is the best thing to do, please?

You have 3 years NCD. Lucky you! Put that down.
You should put down whatever it shows on your renewal notice as that is your proof of NCD. The fact that you got a bonus and Prudential didn't pick up on the fact this was a bonus from tesco and allowed it should mean you now have 3 years.
Remember NCD is a marketing tool and nothing more, so take advantage of it while you can and drive carefully!0 -
Thanks for the reply. We would very much like to keep our NCD bonus but we face a problem when we search for insurance quotes online. OH got driving licence in 2007 just before buying the car. When we enter UK licence held as 2yrs and NCD as 3yrs the insurance websites do not accept it & we are not able to proceed with getting a proper quote. How do we overcome this? kindly let us know.0

He could have had insurance in his own name whilst learning to drive and gained 1 ncb that way so that seems silly

Don't arrange insurance on the internet. When we enter UK licence held as 2yrs and NCD as 3yrs the insurance websites do not accept it & we are not able to proceed with getting a proper quote. How do we overcome this? kindly let us know.
TESCO offer an introductory discount the equivalent on 1yr NCD, that's why the invite showed 2yrs at renewal.
Ring someone up. Talk to them. Explain this.0
