E-On Prepay?? So why the huge bill??
We moved from Scottish Power as our electricity supplier after 6 months to move to E-on, our final bill being around £5 as we pay with a prepayment meter and this bill covered various small discrepancies.
We continued to use our prepayment meter through E-on and have had several meter readings / checks over the past year.
As prepay customers we were disgusted to receive an annual bill recently of almost £900!!!
As stated there have been several checks during the year, however the only correspondence we have received from E-on before this bill has been (believe it or not) fliers and letters describing how cheap their electricity apparently is!
We are currently on benefits as jobs have been lost through redundancy and we rent our house, so frankly there is no way in hell this bill of £900 is being paid, even if we wanted to.
I have not yet rang E-on, I just want a little advice to back me up before having an argument on the phone...
Thanks

Hi KrysN,
This bill sounds odd to me, is it for gas or electricity? if electricity then do you buy your credit with a key or is it a token meter
When you changed over to us, did you receive a new key/card to make your payments on? if not it may be a case of misdirected payments, this means if you have used your previous suppliers payment device all of your payments may have gone to them when they should have come to us, therefore, leaving your account in debt.
There is also a chance it could be a case of missing payments, if you have the receipts from your payments we can locate these.
I would call E.ON ASAP ask what this debt is for, and how has this happened.

Firstly, thanks for your quick response.
The bill is for electricity only and is paid with a debit-like card which is topped up with credit from our local shop, around £15-£25 pounds a week.
We received this card within a week of joining E-on and were told that our new electricity prices would be implemented as soon as our new card was registered by inserting it into the meter.
One of the pages of our bill shows a list of all payments received by E-on from this card, including all dates, coming to a sum of around £525 for the year.
There is a section which describes standing charges (which in the past with Scottish power have always been paid through the meter) with a total of around £90 for the year. (186 days at 33.26pp/day and 133 days at the new 21.9 pp/day )
Then comes an insane section for power charges, 7234 kWh @ 10.69p and 4590 kWh at 10.58p, coming to £773.31 and £485.62 respectively
Our total payment for the year apparently comes to £1,417.42, with £525 being paid, leaving £892.42 of "debt"...
I understand how problems can occur with meters and accounts, however with all the checks and meter readings E-on has had ample time to inform us of our situation and/or increase our rates.
Ironically, our landlord placed the prepay meter into our home so that future tenants could not get into debt through utility bills...0 -
Ok, it sounds like you either have a smart meter or one of the old token meters.
Your payments do appear to have come to us.
The best thing to do is to take your settings from your meter and contact E.ON with this information.
Has the account been billed to accurate readings, both current and start readings?

Thanks again Helena for a quick response, I will phone E-on to discuss the matter, but I have just noticed a difference in my meter readings..
The meter reading itself seems to be accurate, however:
Tarif = 11.11 pp/wk
My bill states 10.69p(old) 10.58p(new)
Standing charges = £1.61 per w/k (so 23 pp/day)
My bill states 33.26p(old) 21.9p(new)
Surely this means I have actually been paying more than this bill states, rather than less.0 -

Ah yes, didn't think of Vat..
Bill reading states 12747 from 27th July (actual reading, not estimated)
Current reading :013002
At the rate it had increased since last night it seems accurate..
Helena is currently working on my problem with a collegue, will post an update.
Thanks0 -
Well that's all sorted!
Seems a rare series of events regarding my account and meter caused a small problem which has now been corrected.
No money owed.
Just shows not all utility companies are hard to deal with. :rotfl:
Thanks again Helena for your help, you're and angel! :A0 -
So glad we could help and this is all sorted today.
