Returned cheque natwest

I wrote a cheque for £24 over two weeks ago, i have had money in my account since then.... i have noticed that the cheque is showing up today but i have no money in my account to cover the cheque until tomorrow! I phoned my bank to asked if there is anything they could do, they said no & the cheque has been returned Arghh!! what does this mean?? when would the cheque (i wrote) have been paid in?

Im sure they could have done something to help, they just want to charge me the £38!

A cheque is valid for a period of 6 months which means that up to that point it can be presented for payment. They cannot delay the clearing process.
They would have banked it on Monday/
Did you ask about increasing the overdraft?
Is the cheque refer to drawer or refer to drawer please represent? If it is the latter then the cheque can be represented and will be next week.
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009
