Is this making my condensation worse?

We have condensation problems in the loft. We got a couple of extra vents installed but they've not made a great deal of difference.

I've just discovered rolls of insulation (maybe the diameter of a bolster pillow) squeezed down into the eaves. It's very old grey/brown stuff that must have been there since the house was built.

I thought the eaves should be left clear of insulation to aid air flow? Is that right or have I misunderstood? If that's the case, could these rolls have been making the condensation problem worse? Do I I haul them all out or leave well alone?

If you mean the gap between the cavity walls, then yes these should be free to allow airflow into the cavity.

They were at the very top of the walls....in the angle where the roof meets the wall.

Yes, we know where the eaves are, but do you have cavity walls?

Sorry. I was only trying to be clear as your reply seemed to refer more to the walls and I was getting a little confused as my condensation problem is in the roof lining and I didn't appreciate that the cavity walls were linked.

Anyway, yes we have cavity walls.

We don't have any air bricks in the cavity walls (in case that's relevent...ignore if it's not. :D)

Nothing to do with cavity walls as these are capped off with the roof bearing wall plate or tile covering if a gable end.

The insulation will be blocking the passage of air behind the soffit.

    Remove it.

    That's what I thought. Thanks.
