capital one credit card travel insurance

I have a Capital One credit card and one of the "perks" is if you pay for the holiday with it you get free travel insurance. Is this insurance adequate for a couple in their early 60's going to Spain for a fortnight?

I was asked by the travel agent when I booked the holiday if I wanted travel insurance and I told her that I was insured because of this and that I also had a EHIC card and she said that was OK but I thought I would check if anyone else has this insurance and if it was adequate.

You should check the T&Cs of the policy to ensure it meets your needs. If appropriate, ensure that any pre-existing medical conditions for both travellers (and any close relatives for whose illness you may need to cancel/curtail your holiday) have been declared and accepted by the insurers (or their medical screening agency)

I also have the free insurance with the Capital One card. I did read the policy and it did seem to have good enough cover. However, as we go to the US a couple of times a year, I carried on with a separate annual policy as I felt happier with that.

I'm not saying there is anything wrong with the free policy, but you would need to read it thoroughly and perhaps compare it to a policy from another insurer to ensure that it covers what you need it to.

EHIC is a health card, it isn't insurance and doesn't include repatrition.

  • Capital One credit card insurance WAS excellent, but is to be discontinued from November. No other insurance offer the same protection for delayed baggage. Trust me it was excellent.
