HELP! Overcharged Holiday - Qwerty Travel

Options
Need Some Advice:

I recently purchased a holiday for 2 in Cyprus (March 2010) through Qwerty Travel. Now I was quoted a price of £269pp. I upgraded my flights with them for £30pp. I therefore had the total of £299pp (£598 total). I paid via my credit card expecting to pay the deposit. The transaction also happened over the phone (no other way).

When I got my bill through the other day not only did I find out that I had been charged the full amount and not the deposit, but the total amount was £640.50....

What am I legally able to do? Personally I want to cancel the holiday as I had a budget of £600 in total I did not want to go over. I have sent an email of complaint asking for a resolution but as of yet no answer (4 days). Having rung them up they have said that any changes or cancelations would incur a cost but they couldn't tell me how much (I can only guess it would be ALOT).

I have requested for a breakdown of charges in my complain email but as it stands would I be able to claim my money back (without charge) given I have been charged more than I was quoted for?

I strongly need help on this.

Thanks!

hmmmm not sure where the £42.50 has come from.

I see they have a 2.5% credit card levy but that takes it to £612

Maybe the extra was travel insurance?

Thanks but given that I find out what the costs are for.. should I not be able to claim my money back as I wasn't told about them.. inc. the 2.5% cc levy.

    Cheers

Anyone know if I have any ground to stand on in getting my money back (by law) or am I now having to pay for something that I didn't want to spend so much on??

You have vey little chance of getting your money back if they have already booked the flights for you as they will be non-refundable. However you should still push for a breakdown of the costs and tell them that is not the price you agree to.

If they record all conversations you can ask them to review the tape.

Have you tried pretending to book the same holiday in another nane to see what prices they quote?
  • I am aware that this thread is somewhat old now...... however QWERTY still seem to be operating using 'unusual' standards.
Always, their initial price shown is NOT the price you pay, this is more common in this industry than most people think.
    Additions will invariably be:
Baggage charge (to be added to the cheap flight cost).
Travel Insurance (which should alwaye be optional).
Transfers (to & from the airport & hotel).
Credit Card charge (quite usually 2.5%)

Unfortunately QWERTY seem to have added their own little earners onto the above, commonly they will advise that the original (cheaper) flights are no longer available and add an additional cost to re-arrange to a more 'convenient' flight time. This then will later be reverted to the orginal flight time - with no refund offered, or given when requested.

Secondly they will advise that the originally offered roooms are no longer available and kindly offer an upgrade (at a cost) - this is in fact NOT an upgrade, as you still get the same room, but at the inflated price.

All these methods are to increase your final holiday package and are widely reported, by previous customers on the internet, I expect we will soon see an expose for this company ........ on a TV near you.
