Advice on private parking ticket
KS1978
I hope someone can advise me pls. I received a ticket back in June for parking in an unauthorised area. I did not know it was unauthorised as there were no signs up to indicate this. I first emailed the Company (UKPC) to say there must have been a mistake and asking them to write the ticket off. They refused, giving their reasons for the ticket, that the space was unauthorised and also I had blocked a fire exit (again - no signs in the space indicating this either). I then sent them an email (with photographic evidence) appealing the ticket due to the lack of signs but they still wanted payment so on advice of others I ignored anything they sent through. I then had a letter saying it would go to a debt collector. I have now had a letter through from the debt collectors asking for £100 or it will go to court or doorstep payment. I think I am in the right here so am happy to sit tight but my husband (who the vehicle is registered to) is getting panicky as it is in his name (even though I have assured him, the driver i.e. me is liable). Any advice, please help!

Just read Martin's latest advice and other threads on here - in summary, don't pay, ignore any letters they send, and they will give up and go away.
I have been providing assistance, including Lay Representation at Court hearings (current score: won 57, lost 14), to defendants in parking cases for over 5 years. I have an LLB (Hons) degree, and have a Graduate Diploma in Civil Litigation from CILEx. However, any advice given on these forums by me is NOT formal legal advice, and I accept no liability for its accuracy.0 -
Thank you - I had reassured my husband this was the case but he is getting worried! Do you think I should respond to the debt collector's letter?0

There is no debt to collect. And debt collectors have no more power than you or I. Don't waste the price of a stamp.

If they turn up at your door don't forget that they are just privates citizens with no more power than you or I have. If they refuse to leave tell them you will sue them for trespass. They have no power to seize goods or to blacken your credit record. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -

Didn't think that was very successful.
