Tesco ... different store different prices?

Yesterday I popped into the Tesco near my work because I had seen the deodorant was on offer (£1 instead of £2.50).

Then I popped into the tesco near my home, and discovered that it wasnt on offer. After speaking to the manager he said that different stores have different prices for items and offers, they used to be all the same but now its geographic.

Now both of these stores were Tesco Extra, except the one near my work is in a "poorer" area than the one near my home (they are about 8 miles apart).

Anyone know if this is actually true? I though supermarket prices were the same throughout.

It was promotion change yesterday into today for health and beauty, it may have been that the price change was actioned in the 2nd store back to £2.50, yet at the till it would still have scanned at £1.

Tesco Express, Tesco 'normal' and Tesco Extra all have different prices for quite a lot of things, both locally and in different areas.

I don't know about geographical areas, but the Tesco nearest to my office (Tesco Express) rarely has the same offers as the one by my house (Tesco Extra).

Wetherspoons prices do vary according to area, I've noticed that areas they perceive to be "poorer" are cheaper.

I took it to the checkout first, it scanned at the full price. Other deodorants, that were also on offer at the first store, were still on offer. Makes me a bit angry really. Every little helps, yeah right!

  • Where I live there is a Tesco Extra on the outskirts and a Tesco Metro in the town centre and they have different prices for quite a few items.

Tesco Metro is always the dearer price

Yeah they do charge different prices. I *think* I read somewhere the only supermarket that charges the same nationally is Morrisons.

Correct - Morrisons have single pricing.

Tesco have to ensure the Clubcard 'freebies' are paid for by the customer somewhere.

Tesco do have different prices per store, its something I have noticed. Some participate in deals, others do not, some have items at the same price but different weight-

I went to Tesco Extra at Bayswater, 200g melon was £1.49 (went straight back onto the shelf), where as the one near to where I live in a different part of London was £1.25 and for 240 grams.

Thats just one of many price differences between the 'extra' stores which I have seen, the main Tesco stores themselves seem to have much more of a universal price thing.

Now that the big four have closed down most small shops, they have ' moved ' into the High St and charge accordingly ie. convenience prices. Some might have a few offers on like the main supermarket but most prices will be dearer, so customer beware.
