Hardship Claims with Clydesdale/Yorkshire Bank

Hi Guys
Hope this finds you all well!
Has anyone here had any experiences claim (under Financial Hardship) with the Clydesdale/Yorkshire Bank?
I have been waiting since June for them to review my hardship case and found out today that they will be getting round to it at some point in the next week - which is great.
We are in arrears with our rent, council tax, phones and have had various other committments rejected over the last few months. My bank charges claim total £8500 (incl interest), but I doubt very much that they will refund the full amount. Financially, we have been stuffed for ages, but without a boost from these charges, it will be such a struggle to get back on track.
I have no idea what their criteria/rules are and if they are one of those banks who simply turn everyone away. I proactively provided them with a income & expenditure spreadsheet and also gave them copies of bills and arrears notices.
Fingers crossed that we will get something back to help push us back into an even keel xxx
It would be interesting to know if anyone else has had dealings with them and what their experiences have been.
Thanks
Hayley

You have already ticked a few boxes already. What was it that started the whole charges rollercoaster? Did you or partner lose their job? Have hours cut down?Hi Guys

Hia NWM,
The rollercoster started 3 years ago. My daughter was born with a genetic condition and because my job - v. well paid and enjoyable - involved alot of travel, I could no longer commit to it, as she was very difficult to look after. I accepted a voluntary redundancy package and didn't work for over a year as I was looking after her. My husband worked abroad month on/month off and that contract came to an end, so he had to find a new job. Although he got a new job, he took a significant drop in salary - went from £3k a month to £1k. We could no longer afford our house so sold up and settled some of our debts. We now live in a rented house.
Our daughter, thankfully, has progressed very well which is a massive relief, so I went back to work but, like my husband, took a job that was much lower paid - having kids, whilst joyful, is career suicide!! Our daughter is in a nursery that did cost just under £700 per month (!) but this has reduced now to £450 as she receives government funding. I am working my way back up professionally, so don't think that the slump will last (I'm an eternal optimist!).
Basically our incomings (income) don't cover our outgoings (loans, rents, bills, etc). We have scraped by by selling our belongings and borrowing money from our parents, but this isn't sustainable as you will appreciate. I am open to any offer from the Bank and am just waiting to hear from their case worker.
I sent them evidence of arrears and also a letter from my daughters geneticist to validate where this all started, as I didn't want them to think that we were pulling a fast one - I am sure that that does happen!
We can but hope as we are now in the lap of the Gods!!
Thanks for listening!0 -
That does sound like a rough few years and I would say that from your post it is a kinda 50/50. Part of me says no since childcost care may not necessarily be seen as essential living expenses yet with her condition the other part of me says well, you cannot simply dump her on anybody so I hope the bank makes even the slightest offer, ie suspension of charges and interest because that is at least something rather than nothing.
Fingers are crossed and please update the thread when you receive a response.0 -
I hope that they show sense as well. I will disagree with anyone who argues with appropriateness of childcare costs, as in my view it absolutely IS an essential cost, as it is the difference between working and contributing to the economy and society or staying at home and claiming benefits. For some, it simply isn't worth their while to work, as the childcare costs outweight their earnings and I feel for these individuals who really want to work and can't. I've always worked and have never signed on, so it wasn't an option for me to start now. The nursery has been instrumental in helping my daughter develop to such a great degree, so that is another argument for it being essential. If the bank argue the toss with me on that one, they will be in for a shock, as I won't take it lying down!!;)
I'm open to any kind of offer. I will, of course, keep you posted. Thanks!0 -

Hayley the issue is Childcare costs v. extended family help.0 -
I appreciate that would be the legitimate question. Due to my daughters condition, she would regularly choke as a baby and never slept - this ruled out any help, as none of the grandparents (or anyone else for that matter!) were comfortable having her. Now that she is older, my in-laws are not fit for her and my mum works full-time. My Dad lives 200 miles away, so he is out of the question.
We have been through all of the possible options. Hopefully, when we speak to Clydesdale, they will recognise this.
Thanks for asking the questions and pointing out what the potential perception will be from the bank - it is helpful in terms of preparation.0
