Argos rant...

I ordered a nice new washer/dryer for wifey on 17th july. LG WD12124RD £159 cheaper than the local currys. I0 days later we recieved a nice new GAS COOKER. Argos did not offer an apology, or a refund or a similar featured machine as it is no longer in stock. All I can get is the standard "we are liasing with our white goods dept" When i phoned I was promised initially a replacement. Now I just get passed from pillar to post. They have my money and I got nothing. I sorry i didnt use my credit card. >:(

    Hello Mediaman

Sorry to hear about your troubles with Argos. Maybe there is a another unhappy Argos customer who is expected to cook their dinner in your washer/dryer.

These vent board messages are very useful for everyone to read, we can avoid the named and shamed firms like the plague.

Thanks for the comments folks. I did just suggest to Argos that maybe my washer dryer was delivered to some else but of course I got no reply.
However after spendind 23 minutes on their 0870 number I was told that customer services had indeed phoned me yesterday and advised me to choose another m/c. I'm still waiting for the manager to phone me back.
Strange I didn't recieve any calls from them. Somebody at Argos is telling "porkies". :o

anybody got the postal address of their Head office

Finally got talking to a manager on Fri 6th Aug got an apology and promised a refund (got a £10 voucher) Checked my bank account today the 14th. No refund yet.
Phoned Argross yet again and was informed that the refund was processed on the 12th 6 days later. please allow 7/10 days. So they've had my cash for almost a month now.
Wonder if they would let me keep some of thier money in my account for a few weeks and let me keep the interest..... :P

In June we bought a fridge, a freezer, a display cabinet and a video cabinet from Argos. I won't go into all the rants (I wrote a complaint letter that was 6 sides of A4 and 5 of the sides were just explaining the timeline of problems (e.g. once again for the fifth time running fridge was not delivered). Now, almost three months on we have received £50 in vouchers and I also claimed back two days worth of pay for holidays I had taken for deliveries etc. However, some of the products were fault and were returned and they are still on our card and I've had to complain again to get them refunded.

    Once bitten, twice shy. Hopefully.

  • Another Argos rant - At the beginning of August I bought the September issue of Todays Golfer.
There was a two page spread for an Argos Sale. The advert said the sale was valid until 14th Sept 2004.
I saw and electric golf trolley reduced from £299.99 to £199.99, and thought this a good deal.
I went onto the Argos website and found the price was still showing £299.99. I emailed Argos about this discrepancy and they responded the following day saying the price was correct at £299.99.
I called Customer Support and queried it again. Eventually, a manager contacted me and said that the price was in fact £249.99 if I ordered via telephone.
So at this point in time, there were three prices for the trolley, £299.99 if I ordered in the shop or webpage, £249.99 if I ordered by phone, and £199.99 in the advert.
I logged onto the website a couple of days later, and saw the price had been reduced to £249.99.
Assuming the advert to be a mistake I placed an order, and duly received my trolley.
Two weeks later (last week) I logged on again and saw the trolley priced at, yep, £199.99.
I contacted Customer support to tell them that I was less than happy about this, as I had originally tried to buy the trolley at that price, but was told it was incorrect. I had a difficult time with the support person, who wanted to know all sorts of irrelevant details about the advert, and kept saying the sale only came into place on the 28th August and I had purchased mine on the 7th August.
I was also told that the price of £249.99 was only held for one day ! !
I kept explaining that the advert I saw at the beginning of August did not have a start date, only an end date, and therefore I should have been able to buy it at the £199.99 price, since it was clearly not a mistake as I originally thought.
I have now been told that someone will contact me within 7 days.
I clearly feel cheated and will continue to demand a refund of £50 which I feel I am due as the difference between the price I paid and the sale price.
I this is not forthcoming I will then go to the Trading Standards with my case. I have contacted Watchdog but have not had a response yet. Watch this space !
    >:(

Just a quick update = Further to the above, I wrote to Sara Weller, MD of Argos, as well as the ASA and Trading Standards. An almost immediate response came from Lynn McLeish (Argos Chief Exec) through a telephone call (which my wife took) followed by a letter of apology. I was reimbersed the £50 which I originally asked for and also received £50 in Argos vouchers. I am pleased with the eventual outcome of this issue and the response from Argos management, although of course it is always regretable that they have to get involved in the first place. Anyway, praise where praise due, so well done Argos ! Looking at the root cause of the problem, I think it was twofold - 1) The advertisment was placed in the September Issue of the magazine which of course comes out in July ! If they wanted to advertise a sale that started in August they probably needed to place it in the October issue. (Aside - I think magazines are getting crazy in this area. Here we are in the middle of November and I have just purchased the January edition of a computer magazine !) 2) Customer Services were not made aware from Sales/Marketing that a sale was about to kick off, hence when I contacted them they new nothing about it.
Anyway, as I said sorted !

    go werf. :o
  • @ werf

I'm not sure if you can win this one.

There is no contract until the money is exchanged, and since you proceeded with the exchange knowing the higher price, l think legally they are probably covered.

If you're lucky you'll get £50 / £25 voucher back as goodwill, but l doubt they will admit to being wrong.
    Sense is not common.
