Why am I being refused a credit card?

Options
I cant understand why Im being refused a credit card - Im a stoozer and have paid off all my credit cards on time. Ive reduced my credit limit on the card I use most and I always pay this off in full every month. Ive got 4500 from Virgin and I have a credit limit of £7000 with Capital One - not used only to use their fee free cheques and then they are paid off in full at the end of the month. As total amount of credit available is well below our total annual income I wondered if there was any reason why I should be refused. I am getting credit cards in my husbands name but he doesnt like using the phone to transfer balances etc and would therefore prefer them in my name. Any ideas to up by credit scoring. I am also a home owner if that makes any difference.

Ive even tried applying for a credit card which I have used before and kept all payments up to date but even they have refused me. I thought they would have gone on my past record??

Do you speak English? Thats apparently a big factor thesedays.....

Other more serious factors could be

    1) Number of searches bringing your score down
    2) Applying from cards within the same company. For example, you have a Virgin card. Have you applied for other MBNA cards? If so, they may reject you automatically.
    3) The fact they think your total credit is too high in relation to YOUR salary, not both of yours.

I was refused for an Egg Money card despite flawless 4 year previous record with them, so its not cut and dry that they will reissue with a card.

I have same problem - in that husband doesn't like calling up about things. However if you can only get cards in his name, why don't you get yourself added as a second cardholder, you can then call up and make transactions etc yourself.

I've done that before now with more than one card with no problems.

Not all cards will speak to a secondary card holder without having written authority to do so from the main cardholder.
Other alternative is to apply for cards operated over the internet, Egg was ideal but not from next month when the balance transfer fee becomes uncapped.
The reason you are being refused maybe that you have too many credit searches showing on the credit reference files, they dont get deleted for a year, even if you havent been issued with the card.
