    Peanuts - Don't you just wish you had cable - I have 1.1MB a second (thats 10MB)

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I am getting a sense of superiority
  • :rotfl:

    Doesnt really help though.

I wanted peoples thoughts on the up & down nature of the download speed.

    ;)

  • Peak non-peak times? Seems like slower speeds are at times when more people would be hitting your exchange, more users, slower speeds. Only exception is weekends, so, to be honest it could be a number of things and specifically, people tend to use the net and mroe and more unusual times. In general it just seems like it's slowing down during peak hours.

Edit: To clarify, the majority of your faster connection speeds are during office hours, when people are away from home working etc..

and I have 5+MB/s so I'm even more superior :p:p:p

Are those figures Kbps or KBps (bits or Bytes)?
What speed testing site/software are you using to get these results?
    What router are you using?
How far from your local telephone exchange are you? I am about 4 miles as the crow flies (about 8 miles of cable though) and can get about 2Mb/s max on ADSL Use http://www.dslzoneuk.net/distance.php to get the straight line distance
Is your router connected to the master phone socket or via an extension?

Its worth connecting to your router directly and looking at
    • the attenuantion
    • the noise margin
    • the router connection speed
If you do that and post here we might be able to offer more advice on whether there is a problem that can be readily addressed or not use http://www.dslzoneuk.net/maxspeed.php to get an idea of the max possible speed

Your figures are meaningless without line attenuation and noise margin figures.

Log on to your router scroll down to find show router statistics and post them.

BTW It would be helpful if you were plugged into your master socket.

Whoops just repeated the post above, should have gone to Specsavers

The router stats are indeed important but from the upstream rate shown you are not on the Sky LLU product which is good but on the Sky BTw based IPstream product which sucks. If the upstream sync rate is 448 that will confirm my susptitions.

The same divide exists with O2 Broadband where the LLU product is great and the BTw based IPstream product sucks.

Anybody beginning to see a common factor here? :)

    He's multi-talented - perhaps you prefer the honky-tonk piano?
  • ive noticed a massive fluctuation in download speeds, im a heavy gamer and i get an hour where my speeds are massive, and an hour where everything is so poor its unreal!

i had considered it was just the connection of my opponent but it was so poor and this was on a 1v1 game so im currently looking for a new one
