I think auctions are a great place to buy, but always look for direct cars (ie. direct from a main agent). Some auction's even put on the ticket which main agent it has come from.
Remember that the price the hammer falls on is not the price you pay, you will have an indemnity to pay which varies on the price of the car and rises the more you pay. Each auction house will have different charges, check before you buy.
